INSTRUCTORS

Shintaro Nakano (KODOKAN 5th Dan Black Belt)

Shintaro Nakano is a KODOKAN 5th Dan Black Belt born in Miyazaki, Japan.

He started his Judo career at the age of five and learned from the beginning the traditional beliefs and values of Judo. He graduated from Chuo University in Tokyo, Japan. Prior to coming to the U.S., he was 8-time Japan National Team member where he competed and trained with the best in the world.

Nakano Sensei began his Judo coaching career with the Canadian National Team in Montreal. Later, he was recruited by Head Coach Yoshi Uchida to serve as the Judo coach at San Jose State University in California, the premier North American college for Judo. He has brought the team to back-to-back National Collegiate Judo Championships in 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016. Additionally, he has coached Marti Malloy to achieve her bronze medal win at the 2012 London Olympics and silver medal win at the 2013 World Judo Championships.

Hidemasa Tanaka (KODOKAN 5th Dan Black Belt)

Hidemasa Tanaka, a KODOKAN 5th Dan Black Belt, was born in Yokohama, Japan.

He began practicing judo at the age of four. After graduating from Toin Gakuen High School, he attended Saitama University, where he participated in the national tournament for the first time.

Upon completing his university education, Tanaka worked as a teacher in Yokohama. In 2001, he became a physical education teacher at Nara Junior High School and began advising the school’s judo club in 2003. Despite his busy teaching schedule, which limited his judo practice to two or three times a month, Tanaka continued to compete. He placed third in the Kodokan Cup in 2001 and won the same tournament in November 2002, marking his first All-Japan championship. In January 2003, he placed third in the Kano Cup and later that year, he secured third place in the All-Japan Weight Class Championship, making him a candidate to represent Japan in the 73 kg class at the Athens Olympics.

Lunch Break

2:00 pm – 3:30 pm: Session 3: 13+ and Adults

3:30 pm – 5:00 pm: Session 4: 13+ and Adults

SUNDAY, AUGUST 18TH (KIDS)

9:00 am – 10:30 am: Session 1: 12 and Under

 

10:30 am – 12:00 pm: Session 2: 12 and Under

 

Each session will focus on different techniques

1) Washington Judo Academy reserves the right to refuse service for any reason that may jeopardize the safety and well-being of athletes, staff, and facilities.  Camp fees will be refunded.
 
2) No refunds for no-shows and cancellations.
 
3)  All participants must register electronically, NO walk-ins.  Confirmation emails must be presented at the door upon arrival.
